The barrage of Xbox LIVE friend requests inexplicably continues.
I’ve gotten more than 50 additional messages since my last post on the topic, despite my friend Blain no longer being on Xbox.com’s Gamer Spotlight and the fact that his settings allegedly only allow friends to view his Friends List.
While most people would simply block non-friend communications, I’ve left it on for reasons of morbid curiosity. What follows are messages that simultaneously amuse, sadden and disturb me:
– “nice gamer score 4 a chick nice” [Nice use of the word "nice" twice. Nice.]
– “if u can send me a voice message please”
– “Hey come play COD4.” [Multiple messages asking the same thing.]
– “please b my friend”
– “are u a girl”
– “please join party” [I had to block this user for sending at least 20 Party Chat requests in a row. Seriously.]
– “can we be friends”
– “XBOX IS GAY AND IM GETTING PS3″ [Wow.]
– “dont do drugs” [Perhaps the most positive message I've received.]
– “r u a girl?”
– “M2AF:WONT HOST ANY GAME FOREVER NOT EVEN FOR 1v1’s,2v2’s,3v3’s,or4v4’s” [M2AF?]
– “if u r a girl im a single 10 year old boy” [This is where I felt ill.]
There were also a few voice mail messages left by squeaky-voiced kids. It’s as if my gamertag were written on a bathroom wall at a truck stop an elementary school. One without English teachers. Or girls, apparently.
Words cannot describe how icky I feel.
your life is like a real-life version of “the guild”.
That’s awesome, forget game developer twitter reports and turn this into a weekly feature.
I envision a tumblr account dedicated to creepy XBL messages.
As performed by Shawn Elliot.
I found your blog because I searched, and I quote:
“why are creepy weird people sending me gross messages on xbox live”
after getting 3 messages in one day from total strangers on XBL, all along the lines of “give me a show and I’ll give you microsoft points” and other similarly creepy stuff.
Guess it’s a common occurrence.
I don’t get it. Do these people actually expect such tactics to work?
